Where are some of the top photography spots in Bhutan?

Without a doubt, the temple Bayul Langdra and its surroundings, the astonishing Gangtey Monastery, villages around the Phobjikha Valley, and the Memorial Chorten in Thimphu share something in common. Even though they do so in different ways, they vibrate with a peaceful and positive atmosphere.

What advice do you have for people who are contemplating to travel to Bhutan?

Find out what spurred your interest in visiting Bhutan. Was it a visual holiday?

A quest for cultural knowledge? Outdoor pursuits like trekking, exploring flora and fauna, bird watching, or naturalist interests? Or perhaps it was for spirituality and self- discovery? Whatever your purpose, discuss these interests with your travel agent to plan a bespoke itinerary for you. Choose an appropriate travel season that aligns with your interests and itinerary.

What's the best way to connect with locals and immerse yourself in the culture here?

Visiting small local restaurants, stepping out of one's comfort zone, strolling through villages, and attending local festivals to mingle with the crowd and appreciate the deep-rooted faith of the Bhutanese.

How has your spirituality evolved or grown as a result of your trip to Bhutan?

We are human beings here to learn many lessons in life, and when we break through with these learnings, that's when we can grow to become better people. Our conscious mind is superficial and relatively immature compared to our subconscious mind. Our eyes can also deceive us – what we see is often not the whole truth. We must rely on our inner wisdom to process and guide us.

Can you share any interesting cultural customs or traditions you’ve observed during your visit?

Paro Tsechu – It was a delight to see the Bhutanese people dressed in their finest Ghos and Kiras, having a marvelous time with their family and friends while watching the festival. The performers were adorned in colorful and intricately designed costumes, performing dances that incorporated graceful movements to express different stories and meanings.

What are some travel tips or advice you would give to someone planning a trip to Bhutan?

Come and stay for as long as you can. Explore as deeply into the country as your time allows. Make Bhutan your primary destination. Instead of attempting to see half of Asia in two weeks, I suggest that, at least for a part of your time in Bhutan, you find a place, whether it's a cafe or a vegetable market, and sit down to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee while simply observing.

What have been the most surprising or unexpected things you've discovered about Bhutan?

Every monastery or sacred spot has its own magical, surreal relics that push the boundaries of rational thought. I've seen stupas entombed in other stupas to stop them from flying away, religious paintings created from the nose blood of a saint, and even the mummified hand of a thief hanging in a protector chapel as a warning to other thieves. There's a magical and miraculous dimension to almost all temples in Bhutan.
